April 2011
so earlier today we had our last field trip and presentations for our retail lab field trip section of the class. obviously since there are no friday classes at my school i wasn’t too thrilled to have to wake up another friday morning for a trip and to do a presentation, but thinking back on it now, i’m emotional again lol. it all really hit me when we went on our new york trip and went to 5 designers’ showrooms and everything else i talked about in the previous post. so i already took the time to evaluate how lucky i am to have gotten the opportunity from Johnson & Wales, but now that it’s all done, it’s hitting me again. lol, idk i just really feel blessed, i’ve made connections with people that i know i would not have had i stayed at Virginia State, or ended up taking the easy route and going to school back home basically for free. i’ve learned so much over the past 8 weeks, most of it coming from field trips i thought were irrelevant at the time — trips to the Dunkin Donuts distribution center, the Herff Jones (class rings) manufacturing/distribution center, our field trip to a place i’m familiar with because it’s a shopping/eating/entertainment area back home (Legacy Place), and finally our last trip today to Genarro’s headquarters. none of us thought these were relevant since we are fashion majors, but once we all presented (well, those of us who didn’t half ass or bullshit) we realized we had so much to talk about in what at first seemed too long. an 8m presentation was not enough to regurgitate the useful information back to our professor and fellow slacker students. so i guess i can retire that “when all else fails, go to Johnson & Wales” phrase lol, i appreciate this hellhole a little more now.
i haven’t been on my tumblr game lately but this 3 projects a week thing is not working well with me. i just turned in my trend board yesterday. we started working on our new designer project today. and my design detail book is due thursday. mind you…this is all for one class. i have 2 other classes to do work for that’s not exactly easy. to anyone who ever thought fashion majors don’t do shit, let me reassure you: we do MORE than you do.
